Saturday night re-cap:
Zane Devilbiss (Farmington, NM) took home the Race For Hope 71 Championship trophy on Saturday night as he flew around the very fast 3/8 mile high-banked track. Devilbiss, however, is no stranger to Victory Lane at Batesville Motor Speedway. He was the Champion of the 2021 Race For Hope 71 where he took home $50,000, and was the 2024 winner of the Schoenfeld Headers Mid-America Stock Car Championship.
It looked like pole-sitter, Tom Berry, Jr (Marshalltown, IA) and the Champion of the 2024 R4H, was the one to beat but Hall of Famer and 2-time champion of the R4H. Wendell Wallace grabbed the lead for twelve laps before relinquishing the lead back to Berry. Supernationals Champion, Tim Ward (Mesa, AZ) then charged around Wallace to take second.
Berry maintained the lead until a late caution with eight laps to go. Ward, Wallace. Supernational Champion, Jeff Taylor (Batesville, AR) and Devilbiss were all lined up behind Berry for the re-start. Devilbiss jumped out and within a lap was criss-crossing with Berry side-by-side for five laps and took the lead with three laps to go. Ward, who passed Berry on the final lap, crossed the finish line behind Devilbiss for second place with Tom Berry, Jr coming in third. Wallace, the Thursday night R4H winner, finished in fourth place.
Drew Janssen from Pella, Iowa came in fifth. Jeff Taylor, Brandon Smith(Floral, AR), Curtis Cook (Conway, AR), and Batesville drivers, Ashton Wilkey and Peyton Taylor rounded out the Top Ten.
Cook was the Friday night feature winner of the Race For Hope 71 event.
In the IMCA Stock Car Division, a father-son duo from Little Rock, Arkansas were the winners with Hayden Linn crossing the finish line in front of his dad, Patrick Linn.
TJ Herndon (Atwood, TN) took third. Joe Payne of Concord finished fourth with Haydan Hartwick in fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Peyton Taylor, Gavin Lowe, Randy Weaver, Steven Brewster and Jack Sullivan.
The Midwest Mod class was won by Slade Hartwick (Quitman, AR). Hartwick swept the series by winning all three nights. Jason Wilkey came in second followed by Connor Wheeler, Keaton Wheeler and Eli Muilenburg from Ozark, Missouri.
Local driver, Roger Witt took home the trophy in the Arkansas Factory Stock division. Connor Kuykendall came in second followed by Jeremy Tharp, Gavin Lowe and William Lawrence.
